is anyone else freaking out about the swine flu?
i went to walmart today (if you know me well, you know i hate going to walmart.) and a few different people coughed near me. i immediately thought "they have swine flu." and darted in the other direction. i grabbed the few things on my list and checked out as fast as i could.
then i had to go to tjmaxx to get a few new suitcases (i will blog about the reason soon). while checking out there, the guy who was helping me coughed (into his elbow, which i appreciated). and the words "SWINE FLU" popped into my head.
it kind of made me smile a little when i got in the car and thought about how afraid of the swine flu i had been all morning. i am just sort of a germaphobe. i hate being around sick people. i could never be a nurse or something like that. one of my biggest pet peeves is when i am around someone who says something like, "yeah, my throat really hurts..." oh, really? great, now mine is going to hurt tomorrow. i realize this is a dramatic reaction, but it's honestly how i feel. :) and i won't even go into how i feel about sick children! kids get sick a lot, i get it. quincy has been sick a lot this winter. but i DON'T get sick kids at school, church, or in stores. keep them home! i'll leave it at that. anyway, back to the swine flu! so i was kind of laughing at myself, thinking i was over reacting and that no one here or near us has the swine flu.
we got home, i fed Q a snack. we played hide and seek. (her new favorite game, but we call it "come find me" and i always hide in the same spot.) i put her down for a nap. pulled out my computer and checked my facebook. this is one of the first things i saw. a status update from my friend deborah who lives in ST. GEORGE!
"Deborah Pedersen Schone Oh My!!! All my kids came home today, they have cleaned out their desks and lockers and were told that today was probably their last day of school. The elementary kids even said, goodbye to their teachers. 4 kids are in question with having possible swine flu. One being in my daughters school.I'm not ready for all of them to be home for the summer. The seniors were told they probably will cancel graduation... CRAZY !!!!"
i read also that park city canceled their prom because of possible swine flu cases there also.
WAY too close for comfort.
but as far as i know there are no actually diagnosed cases in UT. are there?
so what does everyone think? is everyone overreacting? or are these necessary precautions to be taking? should i hide out in our bomb shelter? (we don't have a bomb shelter.) i will tell you this much, i am avoiding walmart for a while though. just to be safe. because you know if i catch the swine it will be at walmart!!
*hope it's okay i posted your status deborah! and keep me posted about the possible swine kids!! :)
