the following story is terrifying. those of you who have been to my houses know that across the street is "the mountains". literally. we have deer all the time in our yard, sometimes elk even come down this far. we get giant creepy spiders and bugs. remember this? there have been fox, lots of mice and squirrels, skunk, and a family in our neighborhood saw a cougar roaming around once! i don't even want to think about what else might be out there!
on sunday afternoon all the kids were outside playing, we have about 10 little kids on our street. and most the adults were out too. i was inside sleeping. all of the sudden they heard james, a 2 1/2 year old SCREAM. his mom figured there was something in the grass he had stepped on. they went over to see what had happened and saw a RATTLE SNAKE right next to him!!! it had bit him in the hand. i am sure he had tried to pick it up. his hand and wrist immediately swelled. sean called me to come outside and by the time i got out they had left for the hospital and sean and lance had the snake in the gutter. they chopped off it's head with a shovel!
james had to have some surgery and a lot of anti-venom. he was in priamry children's hospital for a few days, but is home as of yesterday and was even out playing last night with a cute blue cast on his arm. lucky boy.
i am shaking in my boots over the incident! every where i go i am scanning the grass, the garage, the driveway, the gutter, even inside my house! (especially the dryer, thanks gayla!) i asked sean if they could get into our house. he said no, but i think he just didn't want me to be paranoid. (like i am not already) this is the thing i am really freaking out about. i feel like where there's one, there's a hundred! we have to move.
this is the actual snake before it's beheading. it's a baby one which is worse to get bit by because they don't control the amount of venom they release into you. it's probably around 14"long. uhhhh, i can barely look at it, i HATE snakes.
