May 1, 2008 Feeling Green

sean and i have been talking about doing a garden this spring, or summer, since it's may. jodee and i have also discussed the matter. i am totally pumped about the idea of it right now.
                                   Veggies
i saw this blog post and was inspired! so organic soil and seeds are on my "to buy" list. i also have been wanting to get our food storage. i've been meaning to for a long time now, but have been putting it off. i got an email from my relief society pres.

"Dear Relief Society Sisters,

With the events currently taking place around the world and with a strong
desire to follow the prophet's counsel, we as a Presidency feel a great
urgency that we all gather a year's supply of food.  Gathering a food supply
should be a well thought out process and products should meet the needs of
your family.  Please plan well and purchase the basics first.  They will
sustain life.  Then you can add non-essentials to make your food more
enjoyable and satisfying.....As we strive to be obedient by obtaining our year's supply of food, I know
that each of you will be blessed in many ways."

they attached an excell spreadsheet also. you can see it here ->
Download food_storage_inventoryward.xls  .
here's how it works:

*Items in orange are Basic Food Storage Requirements.

*Put the number of Family Members that you are planning for in the red box at
the top.

*Place the Numbers of Containers that you have on hand in column A.

*Put the Number of Pounds per Container in Column D.

*It will calculate how much you need based on the number of Family Members
that you have input and the number of Pounds Required per Person.

*If your totals aren't adding up the way they should, then check the formulas
and adjust if necessary.

here ->Download food_storage_inventory_ward.doc is a copy of the spreadsheet in Word in case you don't
have Excel.  However, it will not calculate numbers for you.
